St Davids Cathedral Pembroke
To coincide with St. David’s Cathedral, Festival of Music 2014, artist Claire Curneen presents five sculptures, in the North Quire Aisle of the Catherdral.
The religious space has left an imprint on Curneen’s work and over the years this has been a constant source of inspiration. The context of the church space as a place for artistic expression is a long held tradition in Western Art and Curneen welcomes this opportunity to respond to the imposing beauty of St. David’s Cathedral, its architecture and its rich history. The sacred space, like a gallery, is a place for contemplation and Curneen is hopeful that her work will prompt meaningful thought and encourage a personal response in the viewer.
The work presented here is a continuation of a developing body of work that has its starting point in an exhibition titled ‘To This I Put My Name’ exhibited by Mission Gallery, Swansea and Ruthin Craft Centre and is the result of a Creative Wales Ambassador Award from the Arts Council of Wales.
